How to choose a car garage in Alanya
We did not write this to praise our own workshop, but so that drivers know which questions to ask. The points below are standards we have to meet as well. If a garage does not meet them — including us — you are right to question it.
1. Do they quote before the work starts?
A good garage tells you the work and an estimated cost before starting, once diagnosis is done. "Let's look first and talk later" is the most common warning sign. Even on jobs like engines, where an exact figure needs the unit opened, a realistic range should be given.
2. Do they ask for your approval?
If something unexpected turns up during diagnosis, the garage should call you and ask whether to continue. An invoice arriving with "well, it was already apart, so we did it" is not acceptable practice.
3. Do they show you the replaced parts?
Showing you the removed parts at handover should be standard, and you should be able to take them away if you want. That single practice removes any doubt about whether the work was actually carried out.
4. Do they offer genuine and aftermarket options?
A good garage presents both options with their prices and leaves the decision to you. Insisting on a single option, or not telling you which part was fitted, is not transparent. The brand of the fitted part should appear on your invoice.
5. Do they measure, or do they guess?
"Your pads are gone" is easy to say; "your pads are down to 3 mm and the limit is 2 mm" requires measurement. Brake pads are judged in millimetres, batteries in volts, engines in compression readings. Be wary of a diagnosis with no numbers in it.
6. Do they explain in language you understand?
Hiding behind technical terms usually covers either bad news or uncertainty. A good mechanic can explain what is wrong to someone who knows nothing about cars. Never hesitate to ask — the tone of the answer tells you a lot.
7. What is the guarantee?
Workmanship guarantee and parts warranty are two different things. Workmanship is the garage's responsibility; parts carry the manufacturer's warranty period. Ask for both to be stated in writing at handover.
8. Do they issue an invoice?
Work without an invoice effectively removes your ability to claim under any guarantee. It also means you cannot document the car's service history — which costs you money at resale.
9. Are the reviews and the location stable?
A workshop that has traded from the same address for years is running a sustainable business. When reading Google and Yandex reviews, focus less on the score and more on what the reviews say: what do people praise, and what do they complain about?
A simple test: on your first visit, have something small done — an oil change or a general inspection. See how the garage treats you, what they tell you and what they recommend. That introduction is worth a lot before you trust them with a major job.
Two notes specific to Alanya
Because Alanya is a tourism region, traffic and workshop demand rise sharply in summer. During that period cars arriving without an appointment may have to wait. Getting planned work done — servicing, air conditioning checks, tyres — before the season starts is both faster and less stressful.
There is also a point that matters for the many foreign drivers living here: having the explanation before and after the work put in writing removes language-related misunderstandings entirely. A garage that is willing to do that is worth keeping.
What to prepare before you come to us
- Make, model, year and engine type (diesel / petrol / automatic)
- Current mileage
- When and under what conditions the symptom appears (from cold, when accelerating, when braking)
- A photo of any warning light on the dashboard
- Recent work carried out, and when
If you send this to us on WhatsApp we can make an initial assessment before you arrive and have parts ready where possible — which shortens the time your car spends with us.
